I have not only given you the recipe below, but I have also given you detailed step-by-step process photographs on how to decorate the cupcakes.
If you can mould playdough, draw a letter u, draw a straight line and squeeze a plastic bag with a piping tip on it, you can decorate these cupcakes and have them looking incredible.

Cute Unicorn Cupcakes

What You Will Need:
Below are the ingredients you will need to make 24 decorated cupcakes.
For the cupcakes:
- One box of white cake mix that yields 24 cupcakes + ingredients listed on the package
For the buttercream:
- 1 cup softened unsalted butter
- 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tbsps milk
- 2 small drop violet gel food colouring
For the decorations:
- Black food marker
- 9-10 oz. white rolling fondant
- 5-6 oz. pink rolling fondant
- 24 toothpicks
How To Make Cute Unicorn Cupcakes

Gather all the ingredients you will need to make the cute unicorn cupcakes.
Prepare cake batter according to box’s directions.
Scoop batter into a muffin tin, lined with paper cupcake liners.
Bake according to the package’s directions.
Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before decorating.
While the cupcakes cool, prepare the fondant pieces.
Using a rolling pin, roll out white fondant until it’s about ¼ of an inch thick.
Using a cookie cutter that’s about 2 ½ inches in diameter, cut out 24 white fondant circles.
Roll out 24 spheres from the pink fondant – about ½ an inch in size each.
To make the fondant unicorn horn: roll out one pink sphere into a strip, until it’s about 4 inches long.
Form an arch with the pink fondant strip, twist and press at the end.
Insert a toothpick at the bottom of each fondant cute unicorn cupcake horn and set aside.
Use black food marker to draw a pair eyelashes on each white fondant circle and set aside.
Now let’s prepare the buttercream.
In a large bowl, beat together butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk with an electric mixer.
Start on low and gradually increase to high.
Once the ingredients are well-combined and form semi-stiff peaks, set 1/2 cup aside in a separate bowl.
Colour the remaining buttercream with two small drops of violet gel food colouring and mix until completely tinted.
Scoop purple buttercream into a piping bag with Wilton tip #21 attached and set aside.
Let’s Decorate The Cute Unicorn Cupcakes!
Using an offset spatula spread a thin layer of white buttercream onto each cupcake.
Place one white fondant circle on each cupcake.
Insert one fondant unicorn horn at the top centre of each cupcake.
Frost each cupcake with purple buttercream to give it some hair or as you please (around the horn for hair, along the edge, dots at the bottom, etc.)
If you are new to piping frosting, practice on a piece of parchment paper first to get the hang of it.
All you really need to do is place the tip close to the fondant squeeze while pushing down gently and then lift slowly.
