You guys have been asking for this post forever and today I am finally sharing my Skin Care Routine and how I got rid of my hormonal acne!
Who knew as an adult I would struggle so much with acne? I sure didn’t!
As a teen, I really didn’t have acne.
Even during my pregnancies, I didn’t experience any acne.
It wasn’t until after I had Bella in 2013 that I started to get HORRIBLE hormonal acne on the lower part of my face.
My pimples were huge and deep, they often would never even become whiteheads.
The worst part, even if I didn’t touch them at all I would still end up with a scar.
A few years ago I finally found a skincare routine that has kicked the hormonal acne to the curb and other than 1-2 small period pimples I no longer have hormonal acne.
While I am left with the battle wounds, aka scars, I am hoping some sessions with Petra at Edelstein Cosmetic can help lighten the scars and help me be less self-conscious about them.
Skin Care Routine + How I Got Rid Of My Hormonal Acne

The best part, all of The Ordinary skincare products I use are extremely affordable and work so well!
PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION: I purchased the AmazonBasics 24 pack of white face cloths and they are AMAZING. They wash and dry well, no shrinking, warping or shedding. I highly recommend them.

Skincare Routine: Weekly Facial Masks
As part of my skincare routine to keep my hormonal acne at bay I mask about 2-3 times per week to deep cleanse and nourish my skin.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Hyaluronic Clay Pore-Tight Facial Mask
I absolutely love this face mask. It not only leaves my face feeling so incredibly soft, but it has also minimized my pores, especially the ones around my nose and cheeks, and has helped keep my skin clearer.
I use this mask 1-2 times per week for 5 minutes.
This is my longtime fave DIY mask.
The charcoal really helps to deep cleanse my skin and the coconut oil in it helps replenish moisture.
Those pesky blackheads don’t stand a chance against this mask.
I like to use this mask weekly to deep cleanse my pores and get rid of any blackheads that could be forming.
Skincare Routine: Other Product Recommendations
The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer
If you are looking for a great primer to lessen the visibility of your pores when not wearing foundation I highly recommend The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.
It isn’t the greatest under my MAC foundation, but on days when I am not wearing foundation I use it as it doesn’t cause breakouts and it mattifies my face nicely.
The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + Hyaluronic Acid
The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + Hyaluronic Acid is a concentrated serum with purified Alpha Arbutin and Hyaluronic Acid.
Alpha Arbutin helps to reduce the appearance of spots and hyperpigmentation.
I use this a couple of times a week in my PM skincare routine to help lessen the appearance of my acne scars and it has helped lighten them.
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG reduces the appearance of eye contour pigmentation and puffiness.
This has to be one of my fave products from The Ordinary … if I can even pick favourites!
It really works and helps reduce the puffiness under my eyes when I use it.
Makeup I Use
Finding makeup that wouldn’t break me out but that would still cover my acne scars was a trial with a lot of fails.
Either it worked and broke me out or I looked too pale or too orange.
When I started doing TV they always used MAC foundation on me and not only did it match my skin perfectly, it didn’t break me out.
Below are my must-have MAC Cosmetic products that I have been using for years.
MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance
I love this primer for under my makeup.
A lot of the primers I have tried over the years made my makeup pill or separate on my face after a few hours.
I have never had a single issue using this primer and it is my holy grail!
MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
This foundation is legit the bomb.
Not only does it STAY PUT in water, but it also covers my acne scars like some magical voodoo.
I wear this on vacation while swimming in the ocean and my makeup doesn’t budge!
I love that this concealer doesn’t crease under my eyes.
I’ve also used it on my whole face when I run out of foundation and a little really goes a long way.
It covers everything on my face and doesn’t transfer, even when I don’t set it with a spray or powder, it’s like it becomes one with my skin!
