CAA South Central Ontario Blogger Challenge: Day 2 ~ 10% Member Discounts At Banana Republic & Gap Factory Stores

CAA Blogger Challenge Logo

I am one of two bloggers who were chosen to take part in the CAA South Central Blogger Challenge! I will be going head-to-head with Julie from Sober Julie in this challenge where we are put to the test to save with the CAA Membership Card at their Partners and the first blogger to save $209.05 to cover the cost of the CAA Plus membership + Plus Associate membership wins the challenge and is awarded a $100.00 Gift Card to either Husky or East Side Mario’s!

Today is day #2 of the Challenge and I chose to pamper my better half today and allow him to pick out some new summer gear. We had a little window of time to head to Vaughan Mills Mall as that was the closest Banana Republic Factory Store to us and he had to be home to get ready to go to his second job for the MLSE at tonight’s Maple Leafs Game. We left around noon when he got home from his morning at work to go to the mall and if any of you have been to Vaughan Mills Mall you know that place is HUGE! We were smart and looked at the map to ensure we knew where we were going once in the mall and we’re happy to see that the Gap Factory Store was right beside Banana Republic Factory Store.

When we got into the Banana Republic Factory Store we were nicely greeted by the staff and I headed to the women’s section and him to the men’s. I had a handful of clothes to try on and he came over with two shirts. I told him to go find shorts to go with them and I headed in to try my stuff on. I am super picky with clothes and I have such a small frame believe it or not it is very hard to find clothes that fit me properly. I ended up with only a “semi-dressy” tank top as everything else was either too big or too small and the smaller/larger size didn’t fit either. The clothes were lovely and I wish I could have fit into the stuff I had picked out but alas I had no luck lol! Everything he picked out fit him well and he was happy with what he chose.

We headed to the cashier and picked him up two pairs of dress socks as he has a wedding to go to this summer and was in need of new dress socks. The cashier was great and asked if we found everything we were looking for which we had because I really wasn’t looking for much more so browsing because I know how picky and how hard my body is to shop for. I showed my CAA Member Card to save 10% and we were cashed out!

After leaving Banana Republic we hopped over to the Gap Factory Store to see if there was any different items for the girls or maybe something that caught my eye. I found another tank top which was just a casual tank and Steve found a nice pair of slip-on “deck” shoes. I didn’t see anything different for the girls than the Gap store I was at yesterday so we proceeded to the cashier. The cashier was friendly and I showed her my CAA Member Card to save 10% on our purchases.

Banana Republic 1

Above is what Steve picked out, he got 2 pairs of nice shorts, two nice polo’s, two pairs of dress socks from Banana Republic Factory Store and one pair of slip-on shoes from the Gap Factory Store. I really love the grey shorts and they will look great with the shoes and polo for a date night or nice walk on the beach this summer!

Banana Republic 2

Above is what I got LOL I told you I am picky not to mention I find it very hard to spend money on myself, I would rather spend it on my children and loved ones. The black tank is the “dressy” one I purchased from Banana Republic Factory Store and the other is the casual Gap tank I got at the Gap Factory Store.

CAA South Central Ontario Blogger Challenge: Day 1 ~ 10% Member Discounts At Payless ShoeSource & Gap Factory Outlet

CAA Blogger Challenge Logo

I am so happy to finally be able to let all of my readers know that I was one of two bloggers chosen to participate in CAA South Central’s Blogger Challenge!

Please follow me along in my challenge as I will be posting about all the wonderful savings I encounter, the services I receive and all the wonderful things we do & buy during this challenge!

The challenge started today at 12:00pm and will run for a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 8 weeks or until one of us saves enough to be declared a winner!

Today I decided to take a trip to Gap Factory Store at Dufferin Mall to pick up some new summer outfits for the girls. I absolutely love Gap because they have such great clothes for kids – bright, light and being a Factory Store DISCOUNTED!!! Just seeing the signs with 40% Discount, 60% Discount etc send this frugal mommy into shopping heaven, then when you add on the 10% additional discount I get for being a CAA Member with the Show Your Card & Save you can bet my heart was doing flips!

I spent about 30 minutes or so browsing around the store and found some great outfits for the girls that I knew they would just love. With the weather finally starting to warm up they had been bugging me to get their summer clothes out of storage so we could see what fit and what we would need to replace. When they arrived home today after school to see not only their summer clothes bins from storage but a pile of new outfits they were over the moon and immediately ran to their bedroom to try on their new outfits and give me a mini runway show in our living room.

I also stopped by Payless ShoeSource also located in Dufferin Mall as the girls needed new summer runners. I had purchased a pair most recently for Abby but sadly they lasted a week before falling apart so I am currently playing tag via emails with DC Shoes warranty dept. to get a replacement pair. I confess she has been wearing rain boots to school for the last few days because I honestly refused to go purchase another pair when I had already spent quite a bit of money on a pair that fell apart. Thankfully she now has a replacement pair that will turn into gym shoes once her outdoor DC Shoes are replaced. While at Payless ShoeSource I found two nice pairs of Champion runners for both girls and a comfy pair of slip-on Air Walk shoes for myself – anything to get me out the door faster than having to tie up laces is a plus for me! Everyone at the store was super helpful especially come checkout when I FORGOT my pin number for my credit card *mommy brain is in full swing today*. I called my credit card company who was going to manually do the transaction BUT Payless did not know their merchant id so they placed my items on hold while I went to the Gap Factory Store and waited for Steve to get home and BBM me my pin number lol!

CAA

The Canadian Automobile Association which is more widely known as CAA is a non-profit federation which was founded in 1913. They provide their members with roadside assistance, travel services as well as insurance services and member discounts. For more than 100 years CAA South Central Ontario has been meeting and exceeding the needs of Canadians.

I am sure many of you if not already members of CAA have a family member who is and you may already know a bit about some of the services CAA offers to its members. I personally knew about CAA as many members of my family have memberships – I can recall my brother and step-father getting their yearly memberships for Christmas for many years, but what I didn’t know was all of the great services and rewards CAA members have at their fingertips! Being the frugal person that I am I was excited to learn that CAA members had such savings and rewards available to them. My partner holds a CAA membership so this was something that I found out could save our family even more money on things we purchase and places we regularly visit!

As a non-driver I tend to not think about car related issues or problems that could arise with a motor vehicle simply because I do not drive and the only time I am in a vehicle is as a passenger but I have been a passenger during a few instances where Roadside Assistance was needed and each and every time CAA was who the driver I was with called. My most recent memory of a CAA incident was the evening I went to help my friend Shaylah pick up an item and help her get it into her apartment. We drove to pick up the item and when we arrived back at her apartment we parked outside in a non-parking zone since we planned on only being a few minutes bringing it in she placed her four-way signal on and we went inside. Now this was the first time I had been to her new apartment and lets just say time went by faster than we realized as we were chatting away, reorganizing her apartment to fit her new item and just catching up. When we went back outside for her to take me home we were more worried about having a parking ticket than the problem we were about to face. We got in the car thankful not to have received a ticket and when she turned the key to start the car … NOTHING! Yup we killed the battery by leaving the four-way signal on for probably over an hour. After realizing it was not going to start she got out her CAA membership card and called in. Shortly after calling, maybe 15 minutes or so a CAA truck pulled up and a very nice gentleman greeted us, we told him what had happened and we joked a bit about our situation. The best part of the whole incident was her car alarm, the minute he hooked up his tools to her battery her car alarm went off, note that this was in the later evening so I am sure you can imagine our embarrassment. Thankfully he got the car going quicker than we could annoy any of her neighbors and we were on our way!

Now you may be asking yourself why CAA Roadside Assistance is important to have or why it may come in handy? Well if you have ever ran out of gas, locked your keys in your car or like my friend Shaylah burnt out your battery CAA’s Roadside Assistance is extremely important and handy. If you don’t have CAA Roadside Assistance and something like this arises you could find yourself stranded, calling friends and family or even worse paying a lot of money to a tow truck company when if you are a CAA member their services are included in your membership and they are always just a phone call away!

CAA Roadside Assistance Services:

Tow Service – for those unexpected problems on the road

Battery Boost – for those times when your car won’t start

Flat Tire Service – for those times when you run over an invisible nail

Gas Delivery – for those times when you like my sister forget to check how much fuel you have

Locked Door Service – for those times when you head was in a million places and you left your keys in the ignition

Now for all my frugal families you are going to want to pay very close attention to this next part of my post, this is where I tell you how you can be saving your family money on top of having 24/7 peace of mind with your CAA membership!
